Entrance Exam:

At KD Grammar School for Boys, we understand that circumstances can change during the academic year. Therefore, we have a rolling admissions process. As a result, we are able to accept registrations for intake in to Years 7 – 10 all year round (subject to availability of place and fulfilment of conditions).

Year 7

All students must sit an entrance examination, provided by GL Assessment, in addition to a creative writing assessment. All candidates will be expected to bring their pen and pencil but they will not need a calculator

From January 2024, the entrance exams will be carried out digitally, at KDGB. The format of the examination will be:

  • Verbal Reasoning (36 mins)
  • Non Verbal Reasoning (32 mins)
  • English (25 mins)
  • Maths (50 mins)
  • Creative Writing (30 mins)

Familiarisation materials can be found here. This includes the short AAT familiarisation test. Previous paper versions of the assessment can still be used for practice and are available via the GL Assessment website here.

The next entrance examination for this year will take place on  11th January 2025. Information on the exact timings, equipment and other arrangements will be sent to parents following the completion of the registration process.

In-Year Applications

Candidates wishing to apply for entry in other years will also need to sit examinations in the core subjects. This is to determine their academic standard within key areas of the National Curriculum.

Interview:

If your son passes the entrance exam, he will be invited to attend a formal interview with a member of the Senior Leadership Team. The school will also obtain a confidential report from your son’s current school. A student will only be offered a place if the Senior Leadership Team is satisfied that he has met all the entrance criteria. In order to maintain small class sizes, entry to the school is competitive and based on academic performance and interview.

Fees:

Fees for this academic year (2024 – 2025) are £8,350.00 per annum. Fees are reviewed each year. Any increase is usually decided by the Trust in May. Parents are asked to pay fees by Direct Debit in single payment, three termly, or ten monthly instalments. A discount of £200 will be given to parents who pay the entire academic year’s fee in full by 15th September 2024.

If you have more than one child in the school, the first Child will pay the full fee, the second child will receive a 15% discount and subsequent siblings will receive a 25% discount. If your child is joining from Manchester Muslim Preparatory School, your child will receive a discount on fees of £1000 (subject to terms and conditions) for the year.

Open Evenings:

Open Evenings provide the perfect opportunity for parents to visit the school, speak to staff and pupils. It is strongly encouraged that prospective parents make every effort to attend this. Our Open Evening for this academic year has taken place. If you would like to arrange a tour or visit of the school, please contact us.
